OUR SERVICES

Our services are diverse and client specific. Subject to available resources, and at our discretion, we may assist you in a number of ways.

Advice Line

We provide telephone advice to employees in Western Australia on a wide range of employment law issues, including:

  • unfair dismissal;
  • unlawful termination;
  • underpayment of entitlements;
  • breach of contract;
  • equal opportunity; and
  • occupational safety and health.

To help us advise you more effectively, please have the following information ready when you contact the Advice Line:

  • the Australian Business Number (ABN) of your employer (usually displayed on payslips, group certificate or contract);
  • a copy of your contract (if applicable);
  • the commencement date of your employment;
  • the last day of your employment (if applicable); and
  • approximately how many employees work for your employer.

Self help information sessions

If you are considering representing yourself in relation to an unfair dismissal, unlawful termination or denial of contractual benefits claim, we encourage you to attend one of our self help information sessions. Appointments are offered to clients who meet our criteria for further assistance and are subject to availability.

Legal representation, further assistance

and evening legal service

ELCWA may be able to offer you a free evening legal appointment of up to 40 minutes with a solicitor to offer you further assistance. This is subject to you meeting our criteria for further assistance and our capacity to provide the service.

ELCWA has limited capacity to represent clients. To the extent that we are able to offer further assistance and representation services, we prioritise vulnerable clients with meritorious claims who could not otherwise afford legal representation.

Community legal education

We can provide information on a vast array of topics, including ELCWA services, employee rights and employment law as far as it relates to employees in WA. Our efforts are focused on educating the WA community to promote a better understanding of a complex area of law. We provide professional tailored presentations, information sessions and seminars to:

  • rural, regional and remote areas of WA;
  • community legal centres and community agencies;
  • educational institutions;
  • community groups; and
  • other interested groups or agencies.

Research

With the support of our many volunteers, we undertake substantial research activities. We may be able to assist you by providing you with research summaries relevant to your matter.

Please contact our Advice Line if you would like further information.

Mediation

Do you have a dispute with your employer?  Have you considered mediation?  If you have a dispute with your employer, but you don't want to go to court, there are other options available to you.  One of these options is mediation.  Mediation involves an independent, impartial and qualified third party assisting you and your employer to resolve the dispute.
