Family or household member

The definition of a family or household member is a bit different in the state and national systems of employment law Generally, however, a person will be considered your family member if they are:

• your spouse (husband or wife);
• your de facto partner;
• your child;
• your parent;
• your sibling (brother or sister);
• your grandparent;
• your grandchild;
• the child of your spouse or de facto; or
• the parent of your spouse or de facto.

For national system employees, a grandparent, grandchild or sibling of your spouse or de facto will also be considered your family.

Generally, a household member is someone you live with.
