There are a number of national equal opportunity laws that deal with discrimination. These laws overlap to some extent with the state Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), but there are some differences in coverage. The Australian Human Rights Commission is responsible for administering these laws and you can find further information on its website at www.humanrights.gov.au.
The national laws are: the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986 (Cth), the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth), the Age Discrimination Act 2004 (Cth), and the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (Cth). You can access all national laws from the Federal Register of Legislation’s website at www.legislation.gov.au.
